Ok, Delhi is freezing currently!! but you don’t experience real chills untill you haven’t ventured into any of these 14 coldest places in India. Make sure you put on some warm clothes before reading further.

1. Drass, Jammu & Kashmir

Also called the gateway to Ladakh, Drass in Jammu and Kashmir is the coldest place in India. The temperature at this town in Kargil district drops up to freezy -40°C.

2. Siachen Glacier, Karakoram

Located in the eastern Karakoram range of Himalayas, Siachen glacier is the second-longest glacier in the world’s non-polar regions. The temperature here dips up to -50°C. The place is heavily guarded as it also home to LOC that separates India and Pakistan.

3. Lahaul, Spiti Valley

Tucked in Himachal Pradesh, Lahaul district was formed in 1960 and is the fourth-least populated districts in India. The temperature here dips up to -22°C, leaving people shivering for warmth for the most part of the year.

4.Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh

Tawang is located in Arunachal Pradesh which experiences temperature as low as -8°C during winter. Tawang, which was a part of Tibet, has several aesthetic locations and hills to lure its travellers.

5. Kufri, Shimla

Kufri is a small hill station in Shimla that is famous for its holidaying adventures. located at an average elevation of 2,720 metre, the temperature in Kufri dips up to -8°C during winters.

6. Munsyari, Uttarakhand

Also called ‘Munsiyari’ the name of one of the coldest places in India refers to a ‘place with snow’. Situated on the banks of Goriganga river, the temperature drops up to -6°C.

7. Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir

Kupwara is a town and a municipal committee in Kupwara District in the Indian Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The town with a majority Islamic population is one o df the coldest places in India, currently.

8. Baramulla, Jammu And Kashmir

Tucked along the border that separates India from Pakistan, Baramulla is one of the coldest and picturesque places in India. During winter, if you happen to be in Baramulla, you would experience temperature as low as -3°C.

Amarnath attracts a lot of tourists when it opens the Amarnath cave gates, which is a popular shrine among Hindus. The cave is situated at an altitude of 3,888 m and experiences temperature as low as -20°C.

12. Rohtang Pass

Located 51 kms from Manali is Rohtang Pass that connects Kullu valley from Spiti and Lahaul valleys of Himachal Pradesh. Voyaging through the pass is already a challenge besides temperature that can dip up to -14°C.

13. Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir 

Also known as the Heaven on Earth, Srinagar dons its true beauty during winters as it is exposed to regular snowfalls and sufficient sunlight. The summer capital of UT, Jammu and Kashmir, is one of the coldest places in India with temperatures falling up to -3°C.

14. Kalpa, Himachal Pradesh

Kalpa is a small town in the Sutlej valley and has many temples dedicated to both Hindu and Buddhist gods and goddesses. Though the place is sunny for the majority of the day, the temperature at night dips up to -7°C
