American scientists William Kaelin Jr and Gregg Semenza along with and British biologist Sir Peter Ratcliffe have been jointly conferred with 2019’s Nobel Prize for Medicine. The trio won the Nobel for discovering how cells sense and adapt to oxygen availability. The discovery as per the committee paved way for “new strategies to fight diseases including anaemia and cancer.”
