After the clearance from the central government on the names suggested by the Supreme Court (SC) Collegium, 4 new judges were elevated to the apex judiciary. On Wednesday the appointment of Justices V. Ramasubramanian, Krishna Murari, S. Ravindra Bhat and Hrishikesh Roy as Supreme Court judges was finalized.
Justice V. Ramasubramanian was serving as the Cheif Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court while Justice Krishna Murari, S. Ravindra Bhat and Hrishikesh Roy were holding the position of Cheif Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Rajasthan High Court and Kerala High Court respectively.
Recently the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Bill of 2019 was passed, which increased the number of judges in SC from 31 to 34. This was done to reduce the pendency of cases in the upper judiciary. The vacancies in the Judicial system have been a roadblock in the path of dispersal of justice.
It is said that justice delayed is justice denied and with huge vacancies in the lower rungs of the judiciary speeding of appointment of judges is the need of the hour.
