A Guide For Making UPI Payments in Foreign Countries

There’s good news if you want to go abroad this summer. Services for the Unified Payment Interface, or UPI, are now available beyond India in several countries. These countries are the United Arab Emirates, France, Bhutan, Oman, Nepal, Mauritius, and Sri Lanka. To make possible QR-based UPI payments in ten Southeast Asian nations, NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) has agreements with several additional countries.

Therefore, if you plan to go to any of these countries this summer, you have the option of using the UPI app on your phone to make payments instead of having the Indian Rupee translated into the local currency.

It’s important to note that several other nations, like India, are using UPI as a digital payment method. The user may go cashless because of the quick, safe, and easy payment method, which lets them use their bank account number or UPI ID to make payments.

Steps To Use UPI Payment in Foreign Countries

  • On your phone, you must first download a UPI app like PhonePe, Paytm, or Google Pay.
  • Select international UPI transactions from the app’s menu.
  • After that, you must register the information of your Indian bank account.
  • Register your account now.
  • Once the bank account has been linked, you must enter the recipient’s information.
  • You will receive a confirmation message on your registered phone once the transaction is complete.
  • Some fees, such as conversion and foreign exchange charges, apply to UPI transactions.

It’s important to note that, as part of a planned move, India successfully launched its UPI services in Mauritius and Sri Lanka. RuPay card services were also introduced in Mauritius. An important development in cross-border digital payments occurred when an Indian initiated the first UPI transaction in Sri Lanka.
