Admission In Schools, Colleges In This State Would Be ‘Free’ For 2020-21 Academic Session

While almost evryone is facing a tough financial situation amidst pandemic paying school and college fee is a challenge. Parents and students both have no clue how to get finances for the education when there is a need for food and other things as well. Well, this state government has somewhat understood that pain.

Assam government has decided that admission to universities, colleges and higher secondary schools in Assam will be free during the 2020-21 academic year. State’s Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made the announcement on Sunday. It is done to ensure that no additional burden falls on parents as they are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The decisions however would be restricted to government-run or funded institutes.

Students from the higher secondary to the postgraduate level, including medical, engineering and polytechnic students, will be admitted to institutes for free“, said Sarma. There would be no hidden cost he added. “The Assam Education Department will also pay Rs 1,000 as monthly mess dues for those staying in hostels and an additional amount of Rs 1,000 to all students for buying textbooks”, said the education minister.

Further students who passed the Class 10 examinations last year will be given computers in their schools. While those who have cleared the test this year will get Rs 20,000 so that they can buy computers of their choice.
