Days after Airtel rolled out its ‘Wi-Fi Calling’ services in Delhi NCR, Reliance Jio has also started rolling out its VoWi-Fi feature in India. With the launch, Jio is all set to take on rival, Bharti Airtel.
What is VoWi-Fi Calling?
VoWi-Fi calling is a service that has been designed to enhance a user’s calling experience especially when they are indoors. In a nutshell, the service uses Voice over IP (VoIP) technology to let you make calls over a Wi-Fi network.
Notably, to enhance a voice call, the service will automatically switch from LTE to VoWi-Fi ensuring you don’t face connection trouble when inside the house.
Jio is currently rolling out the service in three cites namely, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Kolkata.
Moreover, the service will work or any broadband operator. This means you can take advantage of the seamless calling by simply connecting to your home, office, or any other public Wi-Fi hotspot.
How to enable Wi-Fi Calling Service?
Although you don’t need to download additional apps for the service to run, but your device needs to be compatible with Wi-Fi calling to run the same.
To check if the device is compatible, firstly upgrade your device to the latest software version and then check for Wi-Fi calling and VoLTE in the network options.
Turn the both on (if not) so your device can easily transit between cellular and Wi-Fi calling.
As far as Airtel’s Wi-Fi Calling service is concerned, the company has expanded its service to other parts of India including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Mumbai, and Kolkata.
