After China, New Zealand Is Back Among COVID-19 Cases After Reporting Itself Coronavirus Free

After China has reported a new cluster of COVID-19 cases New Zealand who declared itself COVID-19 free is back among cases. The country has reported 2 new cases after reporting none for the past 24 days. On Tuesday the oceanic nation said that 2 new cases of the coronavirus, both related to recent travel from the UK have been reported.

This comes at a time when New Zealand has lifted all social and economic restrictions except border controls last week. New Zeland was also amongst the 1st countries in the world to return to pre-pandemic normality. However, Prime Minister (PM)  Jacinda Ardern earlier warned that new cases may come up in the future as New Zealanders return home.

As per reports from The Hindu, the 2 new reported cases were women aged in their 30s and 40s who visited a dying parent in Wellington. The two ladies have said to have arrived in the country on June 7 from the UK, via Doha and Brisbane. These 2 new cases have pushed the number of cases in the country to New Zealand on June 7 from the UK, via Doha and Brisbane. The two are under isolation and treatment.

These 2 new cases have pushed the total number of cases in the island nation to 1,506. The total deaths however are fairly low at 22. New Zealand got into strict locked down as early as when there were no casualties. This has led them to maintain a low death rate.
