As there are no new movie releases thanks to the pandemic there are some new releases online. And one such new release is Amazon Prime’s Paatal Lok which hit your mobile, laptop, desktop today.
Though I have just completed the 2 episodes of it this gritty crime thriller looks truly engaging. Based on the happenings around Delhi, Chitrakoot and Punjab the web series gives you some quality option for binge-watching this weekend.
Produced by Anushka Sharma’s Clean Slate Films the web-series has 9 episodes of around 40 odd minutes. So, if you can spend around 6 hours this weekend then you have got some good entertainment. The storyline is inspired by journalist Tarun Tejpal’s 2009 book The Story of My Assassins. The lead cast of Jaideep Ahlawat, Neeraj Kabi, Abhishek Banerjee and Gul Panag would hold you with their performances.
Jaideep as Inspector Hathi Ram brings the best out of the character. The actor put on 25 kgs of weight for the role. Gul Panag as Hathi Ram’s wife is good in the space she gets on screen. Neeraj Kabi as a popular TV Journalist lays down another power-packed performance.
The web-series metamorphically uses the terms ‘Swarg lok’, ‘Paatal lok’ and ‘Dharti lok’ to hit at some of the real world’s harsh realities. As per Hathi Ram his Jamuna Par thana is the ‘Patal lok’ while the lutyen’s Delhi is ‘Swarg lok’. The struggle of a middle-class family and parents coping up with a teenager is another side which the web series explores.
While I am still into the web series some of the reviews are asking Is It Amazon’s Sacred Games? Well, that’s something you can tell when you watch it yourself. Meanwhile, here are some reviews that put a stamp of quality on it:
