Around ’10 People Hospitalized’ After Trying ‘COVID-19 Home Remedies’ From ‘TikTok’

TikTok has become the source of ‘fake news’ and misleading information these days. Recently Delhi Police’s report highlighted how TikTok was used to spread communal tensions. Now, the misleading home remedies against COVID-19 on TikTok has got people hospitalized.

Around 10 members of the two families were hospitalized after they followed the TikTok video on home remedies. The incident has come to light from Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district. As per reports from The New Indian Express families consumed a juice made of the seeds of Datura Stramonium on Tuesday believing that it would keep them from contracting the virus.

The two families, comprising 10 people, had watched videos on TikTok which said drinking the juice of ummetha would keep coronavirus away“, said Sub-Inspector of Police Muni Swamy. Soon after consuming the juice, the family members went semi-conscious. The neighbors took them to the nearest hospital. All the 10 members were treated and later discharged in the evening.

The State and Central health departments are issuing regular advisories for the public to not to fall for rumors and follow “home remedies”. However, the fear of death has made people to believe such rubbish things. Many corners of the society have raised voice to ban the TikTok amidst this time of crisis.
