As Soleimani Is Dead Iran Announces New Chief Of Quds Force

After the death of Major General Qassem Soleimani in U.S airstrikes on Friday Iran was quick to announce his successor. Brigadier-General Esmail Ghaani has been picked up to lead the countries elite Quds Force.

In what is confirmed as a strike and kill operation done on the orders from U.S President Donald Trump Soleimani along with Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of the Iran-backed paramilitary Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) was killed. Apart from the two eight other officials died in the attack.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei informed media that the unit’s program “will stay exactly the same” as it was under the leadership of Soleimani. He promised that “harsh revenge would be served on those who are responsible for the attack.

Khamenei made it clear that the death of one of his top military leaders would only bolster resistance against Iran’s rivals in the Middle East. Ghaani who has served as Soleimani’s second-in-command for quite some time was a natural pick for the post.
