Ayodhya Airport Granted ‘All Weather’ License, First Flight on Dec 30

The national aviation authority, DGCA, granted the Ayodhya airport, which is nearing completion, an aerodrome license. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) announced that the airport has received an ‘all weather conditions’ aerodrome licence in the public use category.

The airport, which is being built for Rs 350 crore, would serve pilgrims travelling from all across the nation to see Ram Mandir. Notably, the Ram Temple building is also approaching completion, with the consecration ceremony scheduled for January 22.

All Weather DGCA Licence Issued

After receiving the license from DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) chief Vikram Dev Dutt, AAI Chairman Sanjeev Kumar revealed the information about the DGCA license in a series of tweets on social networking site X.

“The airport has a 2,200m long runway with complete Aeronautical Ground Lights (AGLs) infrastructure and is supported by DVOR & Instrument Landing System (ILS) which allows the aerodrome to accommodate flights at night and during low visibility/RVR 550m,” the text of the advertisement said. DVOR is an abbreviation for Doppler Very High-Frequency Omni Range, which aids with aircraft navigation, while RVR is an abbreviation for Runway Visual Range.

According to the statement, the much-anticipated Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport in Ayodhya would include a terminal building with a size of 6,500 sqm, capable of handling 600 passengers during peak hours and 10 lakh passengers yearly. The airport code has been allocated as well. A runway of 2200 meters in length and 45 meters in width, capable of accommodating Airbus A320 aircraft, has been built.

The Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport in Ayodhya features an expanded runway that can accommodate A-321/B-737-type aircraft. IndiGo said that the maiden flight from the national capital to Ayodhya Airport will take place on December 30, with commercial services beginning on January 6.

On December 30, 2023, the first aircraft from Delhi is slated to arrive in Ayodhya. Following that, regular commercial flights between Delhi and Ayodhya will resume on January 6, 2024, while tri-weekly flights between Ahmedabad and Ayodhya will begin on January 11, 2024.

On December 8, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that the airport in Ayodhya will be completed by the end of the month and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate it.
