Be Prepared For ‘Large Scale’ Community Transmission Of COVID-19: WHO To Asia-Pacific Countries

Issuing a precautions cum warning the World Health Organization (WHO) has said that the pandemic is “far from over”. The statement has come in the context of Asia-pacific countries. The WHO asked these countries to be prepared for large scale community transmission.

Takeshi Kasai, Regional Director Western Pacific at WHO said that in spite of all measures the risk of transmission in the region would not go. “Let me be clear. The epidemic is far from over in Asia and the Pacific. This is going to be a long-term battle and we cannot let down our guard,” Kasai told a virtual media briefing on Tuesday.

We need every country to keep preparing for large-scale community transmission“, he added. The WHO experts said that though the focus of pandemic is now on Europe it would shift to other regions. Interestingly the area of the outbreak also lies in the central china region of Asia-pacific. Amongst the countries, the ones with limited resources are a priority. In this regards the Pacific Island nations have to be looked upon. Though the curve in countries like China has flattened new cases are poping up said WHO.
