In an attempt to revive education post the lockdown, especially among girls, the Bihar state government has announced a scholarship program for unmarried Intermediate examination pass and graduate girls. The government would be giving as much as Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000, respectively in scholarships under Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana.
This scheme shall being from the fiscal year 2021-22.
However, you must be made aware that such a scheme is no alien to Bihar. In a similar scheme, earlier, the government used to give Rs 10,000 to girls passing the Intermediate examination and Rs 25,000 for completing graduation or equivalent degree.
However, the new Bihar scholarship scheme, approved by the cabinet, is much better and is said to benefit over 1.6 crore girls. The Bihar government, with the new scheme, plans to promote girl education and subdue the instances of child marriage in the state.
Interestingly, the former CM of Bihar and HAM(S) chief Jitan Ram Manjhi lauded the decision of the state cabinet.
“The HAM(S) had promised before the assembly elections that if voted to power, the government will provide Rs 25,000 to girls after passing out Intermediate exam and Rs 50,000 after graduation,” he tweeted.
