Blast On Navy Ship INS Ranvir in Mumbai: 3 Dead

Three Indian Navy sailors got killed and 11 suffered from burn injuries in a blast on Rajput class destroyer, INS Ranvir at Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.

The explosion took place on Tuesday evening inside an internal compartment. The destroyer was anchored at Naval Dockyard on cross-coast deployment from eastern Naval Command at Vishakhapatnam.

The exact cause of the incident is yet to be known. The board of inquiry will confirm the exact reason. The sources have said that the blast happened because of leakage of gas in air conditioning compartment of the destroyer. There was no ammunition involved in the accident.

A Navy spokesperson has said that, “The ship’s crew responded immediately and brought the situation under control. No major material damage has been reported.” He added, “It has been on a cross-coast operational deployment from the eastern Naval Command since November 2021 and was due to return to base port shortly.”

What Is INS Ranvir?

INS Ranvir is the fourth of the five Rajput-class destroyers built for the Indian Navy. Ranvir was commissioned on 28 October 1986.
