Watch: 2019-Like Bombing Attempt Averted In Pulwama After Car Carrying 20 kg IED Was Stopped, Driver On Run

Security personnel in Pulwama, in Jammu and Kashmir, thwarted a 2019-like attack after they stopped a vehicle carrying over 20 kg of improvised explosive device (IED).

Based on the reports, a white Santro with fake registration was signalled to stop at a security check in the area. However, the driver accelerated through to pass the barricade when the Army open-fired at the vehicle.

The driver then ran away from the spot leaving the car behind which was kept under watch throughout the night.

“It (car) was kept under watch for the night. People in nearby houses were evacuated and the vehicle was destroyed on site by the bomb disposal squad as moving it would have been a serious threat,” Director General of Police Dilbag Singh said.

The vehicle was destroyed early morning with the explosive in it as moving it could have been a threat. The massive explosion damaged several houses in the area.

The scene has chilling similarities with the one that happened on February 14, 2019, when an explosive-laden car rammed into a convoy of Army jawans, martyring 40 of them.

Soon after, India, giving a befitting reply, bombed the camp of the terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed deep inside Pakistan. An aerial combat between India and Pakistan’s fighter jets followed thereafter.

The attack attempt comers weeks after Riyaz Naikoo, one of Kashmir’s most wanted terrorists and the commander of terror group Hizbul Mujahideen, was killed in Pulwama.
