Chaitra Navratri 2021 On Its Way: Know Complete Details

In India, Hindus celebrate four seasonal Navratri in a year. Two of them have supreme importance, named Chaitra Navratri and Sharad Navratri. The other two are Gupt Navratri. As per the Gregorian calendar, Chaitra Navratri generally falls in the month of March and/or April. In 2021, Chaitra Navratri is starting from 13th April 2021.

As per the Hindu calendar, Chaitra Navratri observes during the Shukla Paksha (Full Moon Phase) in the month of Chaitra. It is celebrated in different parts of India with different names. For example, In Kashmir, it is known as Navreh, whereas in Maharashtra, The Hindu’s New Year is known as Gudi Padwa.

Significance of Chaitra Navratri

It is a nine-day Hindu festival that shows the victory of good over evil. Also, worshipping Goddess Durga gives inner strength and power. It is believed that it helps in getting redemption and people seek Goddess Durga blessings for the future.

Chaitra Navratri holds an important place in Astrology as the Sun sign begins to change from this day. Lord Sun again enters the first zodiac after completing the journey in all the 12 zodiac signs to complete the next one.

According to Brahma Purana, Brahma started creating the world from Chaitra Pratipada. Some people believe that Maa Durga appeared on the Chaitra Navratri first day and Brahma started creating the universe at the request of Mother Durga. That’s why; Hindu New Year begins with Chaitra Shukla Pratipada.

  • Day 8: 20th April (Tuesday) Annapurna Ashtami -Sandhi Puja
  • Day 9: 21st April (Wednesday) Rama Navami
  • Day 10: 22nd April (Thursday) Dashami, Navratri Parana
