Christmas Drinks: Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic Options

Are you ready to welcome the festive season with complete enthusiasm and hunger for special dishes? I am sure you are but there is one thing I like to put a lot of emphasis on and it is the Christmas Drinks. I believe that we tend to miss out on the drinks while most of the focus stays on preparing the food menu.

Let us chuck that out and give special attention to our drink menu too. Here are some of the Christmas Drinks that you can make with or without alcohol. I have also mentioned the recipes of these drinks so that you do not have to explore the details.

1. Christmas Margaritas

Christmas Margaritas

Ingredients

  • 1 (400 ml) can of unsweetened coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp. cream of coconut
  • 350 ml silver tequila
  • 230 ml triple sec
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • 4 cups ice
  • Lime wedge, for rimming glass
  • Sanding sugar, for rimming glass
  • Lime slices, for garnish
  • Cranberries, for garnish

Directions

In a blender, blend coconut milk, cream of coconut, tequila, triple sec, lime juice and ice until smooth.

As shown in the picture, rim the glasses with a lime wedge to stick sanding sugar.

After pouring the cocktail into the glass, garnish with lime and cranberries.

2. Eggnog

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 tsp. the ground cinnamon, plus more for garnish
  • 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup bourbon or rum (optional)
  • Whipped cream, for serving

Directions

Combine milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla in a small saucepan. Bring it to a low boil over low heat.

Whisk the egg yolks in a large bowl while the milk comes to a boil until the yolks get pale.

Now add the hot milk concoction to the egg yolks in batches. Slowly temper the eggs and keep whisking until combined.

Pour it back into the saucepan and cook over medium flame to make it slightly thick.

Do not let it boil but ensure that it coats the back of the spoon.

Remove the mixture from the heat and add heavy cream to it.

If you want to convert it into a cocktail, add bourbon or rum.

Refrigerate to serve it chilled. Garnish with whipped cream and cinnamon while serving.

3. Jingle Juice

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Cran-Apple Juice
  • 2 (750-ml.) bottles red Moscato
  • 1 (750-ml.) bottle Prosecco
  • 1/2 cup vodka
  • 2 cups frozen cranberries
  • 1/3 cup mint leaves
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar, for rimming glasses
  • 2 limes, sliced into rounds

Directions

Wet the rim of the glasses using a wedge of lime and dip it in sugar.

In a punch bowl, combine all the ingredients, stir and serve.

4. Christmosas

Ingredients

  • 2 Granny Smith apples, chopped
  • 1 cup whole fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup green grapes, halved
  • 1 cup pomegranate seeds
  • 1 cup sparkling grape juice
  • 1 (750-ml.) bottle Champagne, Prosecco, or Cava

Directions

Combine apples, cranberries, grapes, and pomegranate seeds in a pitcher or punch bowl.

Add sparkling grape juice and Champagne in, stir and serve.

5. Cranberry Orange Whiskey Sour

Cranberry Orange Whiskey Sour

Ingredients

  • Ice
  • 1/2 cup cranberry juice
  • 120 ml whiskey
  • 1/4 cup simple syrup
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 120 ml ginger beer

Directions

In a cocktail shaker, add ice, cranberry juice, whiskey, simple syrup, orange, and lime juice. Shake it hard enough to chill everything with ice.

Put some ice into two glasses, add the mixture and finally put ginger beer before serving.

6. Mistletoe Shots

Ingredients

  • Lime wedge, for rimming glasses
  • Red sanding sugar, for rimming glasses
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 (80 ml) packets lime Jell-O
  • 230 ml vodka, chilled
  • Whipped cream, for garnish
  • Mint leaves, for garnish
  • Red Hots, for garnish

Directions

Take the shot glasses, run lime wedge on the rims, dip into red sanding sugar and coat them with it.

Boil water in a medium saucepan and stir Jell-O upon bubbling until completely dissolved.

Turn off the heat and mix vodka or you can go for tequila or any of your preferred alcohol.

Pour this Jell-O mixture into the prepped shot glasses and then place them into the refrigerator.

It will take around 2 hours to set and you can remove them from the fridge after that.

Garnish the shots with whipped cream and arrange the mint leaves and red hot candies like mistletoe.

7. Mistletoe Margaritas

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup whole cranberries
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 2 tbsp. kosher salt 
  • 1 wedge lime, for rim
  • 2 cup cranberry juice
  • 350 ml silver tequila
  • 230 ml triple sec
  • 1/2 cup plus 1 tbsp. lime juice, divided
  • 12 cup ice
  • Mint, for garnish 

Directions

Coat a tablespoon of lime juice on cranberries and then toss 2 tablespoons of sugar. Put these on a baking sheet to dry.

Mix the rest of the sugar with salt and wet the rims of the glasses with a lime wedge. Then dip your glasses into the sugar and salt mixture.

In a large blender, blend cranberry juice, tequila, triple sec, remaining 1/2 cup lime juice, and ice.

Serve this cocktail in the prepper glasses, garnished with mint and sugared cranberries.

8. Cranberry Mimosas

Ingredients

  • 1 lime, halved
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 cup sweetened cranberry juice
  • 1 bottle champagne
  • 12 fresh cranberries
  • 4 small sprigs fresh rosemary

Directions

Use Champagne flutes to serve this drink. Wet its rims with lime and then dip them in sugar.

Add one-fourth cup of cranberry juice and Champagne in every glass.

Poke a hole in the cranberries and thread a rosemary through it.

Garnish the glass with this and serve.

9. Hot Buttered Rum

Hot Buttered Rum

Ingredients

BUTTERED RUM BATTER

  • 4 tbsp. butter, softened
  • 3 tbsp. packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream, softened
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

RUM DRINK

  • 2 cup apple cider
  • 1 cup rum

Directions

BUTTERED RUM BATTER

Take a mixing bowl and beat butter with brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Then beat in ice cream and cinnamon.

Spoon it in a resealable container and put it in the freezer for about 2 hours.

RUM DRINK

Heat apple cider until it boils while stirring it in a medium saucepan.

Remove from heat and pour it into an easy-to-serve container.

Put 2 tablespoons of buttered rum batter and fill one-third of the cup with a rum.

Top it with hot apple cider and serve.

10. Classic Sidecar

Ingredients

  • Granulated sugar, for rim (optional)
  • 60 ml cognac
  • 20 ml lemon juice
  • 20 ml triple sec (such as Cointreau)
  • Ice
  • Lemon peel, for garnish

Directions

Rim the glasses with sugar using a wedge of lime and set aside.

In a cocktail shaker, mix ice, cognac, lemon juice, and triple sec and shake until cold.

Strain the cocktail into the prepped glasses.

Garnish with lemon peel before serving.

11. Whiskey Ginger

Ingredients

CANDIED GINGER

  • 110 grams ginger, peeled and sliced into 1/8″ coins
  • water
  • Approx. 110 grams sugar (about 1/2 cup and 1 tbsp)

COCKTAIL

  • 60 ml whiskey
  • 150 ml ginger ale
  • Lime wheel
  • 4-5 candied ginger
  • Toothpick 

Directions

CANDIED GINGER

Use a medium saucepan to simmer ginger in enough water to cover it on medium to low flame until the ginger is tender and bends easily.

Strain it and reserve a tablespoon of ginger water.

Wipe this saucepan dry, and add cooked ginger, reserved ginger water, and sugar equal to cooked ginger in terms of weight.

Keep stirring on medium heat to keep it from burning.

Let it simmer until the liquid evaporates and the sugar is crystallized on the ginger.

Move these ginger on parchment paper so that they can cool.

Once cold, store them in an airtight container.

COCKTAIL

Add ice into the glasses, add whiskey and then ginger ale.

Pierce a toothpick through some candied ginger pieces.

Stick this toothpick into a lime wheel and garnish it on the rim of the glass.
