Maharashtra News: School Education Department May Promote IX and XI Class Students

Mumbai: The School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad discussed the matter with education department officials. The education department official expected to promote class IX and XI students further. He also said that the final call would be made in the coming days after analysing the situation. Also, the state could not conduct online board exams for Class 10th and 12th due to a lack of infrastructure.

However, if the state decides to conduct board exams online, every student will require going to school and use school laptops and computers for the exams as it is a competitive exam. Thus, the department must arrange computers for each student. In rural areas, network connectivity may create issues. So, these practical problems may consider while students and parents demand online exams.

Twitter is on fire with hashtag #cancelboardexams2021. Till evening, over four lakhs people used #cancelboardexams2021, demanding Class X and Class XII board exams cancellation.

A parent, Anubha Sahai said, “Parents, students, and teachers are worried about the raising Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra and the best way is to promote students of Class IX and Class XI and conduct online board examination for Class X and Class XII or evaluate them based on their internal assessment assignments.”

Some parents argued against delaying or cancelling board exams as it impacts the student’s career. A group of parent said, “Many career opportunities depend on student’s Class XII marks. It would not be the right call to not giving a fair chance to students. The state government should focus on strict Covid-19 SOPs to ensure maximum safety. If the board exams are held on time, students can plan for their further competitive exams.
