Dada Saheb Phalke Award: It Took Fifty Years Of Excellence For Amitabh Bachchan

It must have been a glorious and nervous day for Amitabh Bachchan back in 1969 when he made his debut with Saat Hindustani. And today, 50 years later, with a face that lacks nervousness, he is still busy entertaining us with the sublime talent he entails. The veteran in his illustrious career has worked in films spanning across genres be it a flick as intense as ‘Sholay’ or as funny as ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan‘.

At 76, it is not just age, but also his love for acting that makes him malleable to the ever-changing trends. And that’s obviously one thing that wins you an award as special as Dada Saheb Phalke award. The announcement on Tuesday made by Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar Twitter handle renewed some impressive pouched memories within me.

Though I wouldn’t call myself a Bollywood worm, however, when it comes to Amitabh Bachchan, his charm draws you to the theaters. He was an Angry Young Man in Zanjeer, a struggler in Coolie (which he could relate to the starting phase of his career) and would again be seen in upcoming fantasy drama Brahmastra. Again, performing his best, one genre at a time.

Besides a brief flirtation with politics, television has eternally welcomed Amitabh Bachchan. It all started with KBC back in 2000 and continued to Bigg Boss Season 3 in 2003 and again coming back to KBC snatching the chair from Sharukh Khan. It has entirely been his humor and sense of the game that KBC is still popular among the masses in its 13th season.

Amitabh Bachchan’s contribution to the Indian Cinema is incomparable and we are proud to be born in an era of Amitabh Bachchan.
