Delhi Government To Provide Doorstep Psychologists, Doctors Service To 60,000 Senior Citizens In Delhi

After taking a step to greenify Delhi with its tree-replantation scheme, Arvind Kejriwal’s administration in Delhi is now back with another scheme, this time for elderly people.

Thousands of elderly people, who are left stranded at their homes during the pandemic, can now avail services of psychologists, doctors, legal experts and administrative support at their doorsteps.

The Delhi government said that the officials will set up a dedicated centre for the same purpose.

As per Nitin Shakya, nodal officer doctor, the move aims to provide holistic support to around 60,000 senior citizens living in the New Delhi district. The support becomes more important as these people are advised not to move out amidst the pandemic.

Anyone interested in seeking the service can call at the ‘Hasgulla’ helpline number – 1800111323 — and get medical assistance, psychological counselling, technology training among other facilities for senior citizens.

“Sometimes, senior citizens have psychological issues as they usually stay inside their houses due to COVID-19. The district administration has dedicated teams of psychologists, doctors and legal experts to address the issues of senior citizens,” he said.

Moreover, the scheme also plans to set up as many as 500 ‘Hasgulla Centres’ for senior citizens. These centers will get all the basic facilities including lending emotional support to the elders.

As per a report by the Agewell Foundation, 43 out of 100 elders suffer from physiological psychological problems due to loneliness.

In modern fast-paced lifestyle, they are finding it tough to adjust themselves with emerging trends,” the Chairman of Agewell Foundation was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
