Star Wars is not just a movie it’s a cult fiction, you can spot Star Wars reference everywhere in this globe. This saga has got some of the most devoted and loyal fans. And there is no doubt that Star Wars fans really very interesting to talk to.
When the first movie was released in 1977, Star Wars: A New Hope, it changed the entire film industry. There was nothing like it before, the special effects, the technology etc. It almost changed the game entirely.
But wait, I’m not here to talk about the movie. As I know all you geeks must have already known a lot. Instead, I’ll enlighten you with the different lightsaber combat forms.
Do you know there are seven combat forms of lightsabers, let have a look what at it.
Form I (SHII-CHO)
This form is usually called “The Way of the Sarlacc.” Two of the most recognizable characters Yoda and Luke Skywalker, used this form for their combats.
Though, there is nothing special about this form but its simplicity still attracts attention. Its technique is wide sweeping motions just like Luke portrayed in the Return of Jedi. It is so simple I guess even my 3-year-old cousin can master this technique.
Form II (MAKASHI)
Known as “The Way of the Ysalamiri,” simple footwork that focuses mainly on the precision. The moment used in this form of lightsaber combat is quite graceful and often seems like fencing. I personally liked this form a lot because of how subtle it is.
Jedi himself developed this form when he was fighting against Sith Lord and other lightsaber wielders. Darth Vader is the one who likes to use this form quite a lot.
Form III (SORESU)
More like a defense against the blaster, this form is also called “The Way of the Mynock.” Tight and calculated moments that are used in this form helps the Jedi to protect his body from the blaster.
Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker both have mastered in this form of lightsaber combat.

Form IV (ATARU)
Channeling the force to give aggressive and aerobatic movements, this one is the second deadly form among all the other lightsaber combat forms and known as “The Way of the Hawk-Bat”. If you are finding it hard to imagine how one can use it in action, fighting style of Yoda is a good example. Though, if you try to practice this at home, I’m sure you’ll look like a monkey going crazy for a banana.
High leaps and deadly strikes made it favorite of two legends Yoda and Qbi-Gon Jinn
Form V (SHIEN/DJEM SO)
“The Way of the Kryat Dragon,” it is the advanced version of Soresu (form III). This form has two variations Shien and Djem. So, in the first variation, the technique was used to deflect the blaster attack back at the person who attacked. While in the second variation, it blocked the blaster attack to save the wielder.
Luke himself used this form. And other than him Anakin Skywaler, father of Luke, A.K.A. Darth Wader has also mastered this form.
Form VI (NIMAN)
Used by double blade wielders and characters who use two lightsabers at the same time, this form is also known as “The Way of the Rancor.” One can combine this form of lightsaber combat with the other force techniques, like telekinesis. This form offers attack and defence at the same time.
Darth Maul and General Grievous are the two most notable practitioners of this technique.
Form VII (JUYO/VAAPAD)
“The Way of the Vornsrk,” is the most difficult and the most dangerous lightsaber combat form. In order to catch their opponent off-guard, practitioner of form VII channels the force charges with furious and unpredictable moves.
There is a variation of Juyo, which is developed by the Mace Windu. Rather than just being a fighting style, this variation of form VII is considered as the state of mind. Not just the force but the practitioner can also channel their inner darkness into the duel.
Darth Mule and Mace Windu are the two most recognized practitioners of this form.
If you are a girl and don’t like Star Wars, I’m sorry, then I don’t know you. Star Wars is not just a movie or a fiction, it’s something that we all believe. Because “The Force will be with you. Always.”
That’s why it is necessary for all of the fans of this great saga to know about all the little details. If you are a fan now you can brag about this in front of your friends to prove how geeky you are.
Just remember this is not a date night conversation.
