Therefore, if you are focused or want to live a longer and healthy life, you can try the ‘5-a-day’ rule! Take five daily serving of vegetables and fruits including three vegetables and two fruits. It will help you lead a healthy and longer life. However, not all fruits and vegetables that you consider might offer the same benefits, therefore be clear while choosing. For instance, starchy vegetables, like corn and peas, potatoes, and fruit juices were not beneficial in reducing death risks or chronic diseases. Whilst, green leafy vegetables, such as lettuce, spinach, kale, and vegetables and fruits are rich in beta carotene and vitamin C, like berries, citrus fruits, and carrots resulted in benefits.

According to a study, it is identified that the ideal intake level of vegetables and fruits succinct public health message and supports the evidence-based of ‘5-a-day.’ It also states that people should consume five vegetables and fruits each day.

Dong D Wang and his colleagues examined data from two different study samples including 100,000+ adults followed by up to 30 years. In this analysis, they also pooled data on vegetables and fruits intake and death from 26 studies. This study held in 29 countries and territories in South America, North America, Aisa, Europe, Australia, and Africa for more than 1.9 million participants.

Based on the American Heart Association’s Flagship Journal Circulation, it is said that participants who intake five servings of fruits and vegetables daily have the lowest death risk. Additionally, “In-taking more than five servings of fruits and vegetables do not result in any additional benefit. Eating three vegetables and two fruits resulted in a healthier life and longevity.”

Wang also said that their analysis in two groups of US women and men resulted similarly to those from 26 groups around the world. They support the biological plausibility of our findings and advised that such findings can be applied to broader populations.
