The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) regularly rolls out notifications for people to constantly inform them about updating the correct information on their Aadhaar Card. These changes can be demographics like address, gender, etc. and personal information like DOB, Name, etc. updating details regularly on Aadhaar offers you the security and accuracy you require to execute the official transactions. The process to do so is both offline and online, however, for demographics changes UIDAI only allows online updation. “ In order to enrol for Aadhaar for yourself or your family member, you will be required to visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Center. In case your Demographic details (Name, Address, DoB, Gender, Mobile Number, Email) are not up-to-date in your Aadhaar, you can get the same updated by visiting an Aadhaar Enrolment Center”, says UIDAI about updating details in Aadhaar.

Moreover, UIDAI says it is compulsory to update Aadhaar details, especially for teens who have turned 15 years old. “Biometrics details including fingerprint, iris and photograph are required to be updated by visiting the nearest enrolment centre.”

“UIDAI has made the updation of documents free of cost till June 14, 2023. People can update their proof of identity and proof of address online. However, the updation of mobile numbers can not be done online and need physical verification by visiting the Aadhaar enrollment centre. This is done so that no unauthorised person can misuse the updation process and update your mobile number with a fake number,” says a recent announcement.

Here are the Simple Steps to Update your Phone Number in Aadhaar:

  • First, open the official portal of UIDAI.
  • Use the ‘Locate Enrolment Centre’ service to know the nearest aadhaar enrolment centre for you.
  • Next, the Aadhaar help executive will give you an Aadhaar Update/Correction form.
  • Fill it out and recheck it before submitting it to the executive.
  • Now you will have to pay a minimum fee of ₹50 to the Aadhaar executive.
  • You will get an acknowledgement receipt containing an Update Request Number (URN) to track the status of your application.e
