EC To Review Decision On Holding Physical Rallies

Election Commission Of India will hold a meeting review today to review the ban on holding physical rallies in poll bound states. The meeting is crucial for political parties ahead of Assembly Elections 2022. The meeting will be held with Chief Health Secretaries and Union Health Secretary.

Sushil Chandra Chief Election Commissioner will held virtual meetings with Health Secretary, Chief Secretary, and Chief Electoral Officers of five poll-bound states to take stock of the situation as India is reporting a continuous rise in COVID-19 cases.

Earlier Chief Election Commissioner first put a ban on holding physical rallies until January 15. It further got extended till January 22. The decision will consider progression of vaccination program in providing relaxation to political parties.

Five states going in polls are Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa.

Yesterday India reported 3,37,704 fresh Covid cases and 2,42,676 cases recovered and 488 people died in last 24 hours. The current positivity rate in the country is 17.22%.

Election Commission has said that state governments should aim on vaccinating more and more people before poll9ing dates in all the five states.

Uttar Pradesh has shining numbers where 96% of people above age of 18 have been given the jab of vaccine.

Uttarakhand has given vaccine to 99% of its population (with the first dose). 84% of the populations of people have been inoculated with both the doses of vaccine.

Goa has given both the doses of vaccine to 98% of its population.
