CBSE Board Exam: Class 10 Exams Cancelled; Class 12 Exams Postponed

Due to the nationwide Covid surge, CBSE has cancelled Class 10th board exams and postponed Class 12th board exams. Taking to Tweet, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said, “The CBSE board exam for Class 12, which were to be held from May 4 to June 14, have been postponed”.

On the Class 10 exams cancellation, the Education Minister said that the results would be prepared based on the objective criterion developed by the Board. He added to his statement that students who are unsatisfied with their marks will get a chance to appear in the exam conducted further. No decision has made yet for the ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) board.

As per the CBSE, nearly 21.5 lakh students were to appear in the Class 10 exams and about 14 lakh students for Class 12.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi restated that while academics are important “the well-being of the students has to be the top priority for the Government.” Additionally, he said that the examination centres would keep in mind the best interests of the students and ensure to follow safety measures.

The count for Covid-19 positive cases has been increasing across the country during the second wave of infections. Today’s morning, India recorded 1, 84,372 fresh coronavirus infections which are the highest in a single day so far, along with 1,027 deaths.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and Amarinder Singh also appealed to the centre to cancel the CBSE board exam and prevent lakhs of students from infection.
