The Internet is filled with articles on how to feel happy. There are articles tell you what to eat, what to drink, what changes you should make and several other tips just so you can feel less stressed and happier.

Apparently, everyone is stressed out and looking for ways to feel happy. And those articles are not very helpful unless you are able to follow those pre-existing tips.

Luckily, there is an easy way to feel happy and yes, you haven’t read the title wrong. A recent study revealed how spending little time in nature can benefit your health and mood.

Recently, a study published in the International Journal of Environmental Health Research covering the area of emotional well-being. The outcome of the study suggested that spending just 20 minutes outside in nature (or park) can improve your mood.

The best part is that you don’t have to spend that time doing some physical activity. Simply sitting on a bench and adoring the beauty of nature will also help you to feel happier.

Also, the park doesn’t need to be a national park or any other large space. The urban park in your society will also work the same.

How was the study carried out?

The study was done in the US, 94 volunteer adults were invited and sent to visited three urban parks in Mountain Brook, Alabama. They answered a questionnaire before and after their visit to the urban parks.

Out of all the 94 adults, 64% of adults stated improved emotional well being after their visits. Volunteers who spent 20-25 minutes with nature exhibited the best results. Also, most of them didn’t even move a lot in the park.

The results of the study

Hon K. Yuen, lead author of the study who is also a professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham stated “Overall, we found park volunteers reported a change in emotional well-being after the park visit,”

He continued, “We didn’t find out whether the levels of physical activity improved emotional well-being. But we did find out that the time spent in the park does improve emotional well-being.”
