Though 2020 ain’t normal, tornados, on the other hand, are a very normal phenomenon. When we picture a tornado in our minds, it’s mostly wind circling furiously to destroy everything on its way. But from today, that picturization of yours is gonna change. Coz we have fire tornados here.
California is witnessing wildfires due to increased heat waves this year. And the fact that it experiences tornados too, the two have got mixed to allow an unusual phenomenon called a ‘fire tornado’.
Images and videos of the fire tornado are going viral on social media. Reportedly a warning for ‘firenadoes’ was also issued.
“For the first time in history, a tornado warning has been issued for a likely fire tornado. These are not ‘firewhirls.’ This is a rotating smoke plume being ingested into a pyrocumulonimbus cloud that could produce a bonafide fire-induced tornado. Tornadic wind speeds.” Washington Post meteorologist Matthew Cappucci reportedly said.
As per NASA, pyrocumulonimbus is a weather condition when smoke, fire and thunderstorm merge to obviously create something horrific like this. ‘It results in the formation of a pyrocumulus cloud, which typically forms in association with wildfires or volcanic eruptions due to the intense heating of the air, which cools and condenses as it ascends’.
