First Change In Air India By Tata: Know What

After competitive bidding Talace Private Limited, a subsidiary of Tata Group bought Air India for a whooping sum of Rs 18000 crores. It is expected that the airline will be handed over completely to Tata Group on January 27, today. Government has been trying to privatize the national airline for nearly two decade, which will finally be accomplished today.

National carrier was first discussed to be sold in the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2001. However, the deal was not successful. After 20 years, under Narendra Modi government sale of national carrier could happen.

The first change that is being brought by Tata Group is an ‘enhanced meal service’. It will be implemented in four flights that are flying from Mumbai today.

Company officials told PTI that it is highly likely that Indian Government will hand over airline to Tata Group.

Four flights on which enhanced meal service will be provided are; AI864 (Mumbai – Delhi), AI639 (Mumbai – Bengaluru), AI687 (Mumbai – Delhi) and AI945 (Mumbai – Abu Dhabi).

The new meal service will slowly be expanded to other flights in a phased manner.

Tata Group will also be handed over Air India Express and 50% stake in ground handling arm Air India SATS.

Air India is flag carrier airline while as Air India Express is a subsidiary of the company that was earlier completely owned by the government. Air India SATS Airport Services Pvt. Ltd. was founded in 2010 under 50:50 partnership with Singapore Airport Terminal Services Ltd. The company provides ground handling services at Indian airports.
