First Time Ever Maruti Reports ‘Zero’ Sales

As the lockdown is closing in on 40 days and productions are stalled economy is hit hard. The automobile sector which was down even before the pandemic has gone into disarray. The example of it came in the face of Maruti’s sales report.

The carmaker recorded a historic low in terms of sales in the last month. The company recorded zero sales in the month that ended yesterday. This was a huge setback for the country’s largest carmaker. However, this was quite on the cards as well. The OEMs ( original equipment manufacturers) who prepare parts for Maruti and other cars are expected to go the same fate.

Under normal conditions, the brand has the capacity to manufacture around 150,000 cars on average each month. This has been drastically bought down to a few hundred these days. Last month it exported just 632 units adhering to the said guidelines of the government.

There would be some unusual things which would happen. For example, it has never happened that there is a month in the year when there would be zero sales of automobiles. April is going to be such a month“, said RC Bhargava Chairman Maruti Suzuki India Limited earlier.
