First Time In 33 Years World’s Largest Mobile Show Cancelled Due To Coronavirus

The biggest Mobile Show of the world ‘The Mobile World Congress’ (MWC) is canceled for the first time in over 3 decades. The threat of Coronavirus has taken over the biggest gathering of the mobile world.

The event that draws over one lakh participants from across the globe is canceled for the 1st time in 33 years. “The global concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak, travel concern and other circumstances make it impossible” to hold the event, said John Hoffman CEO of conference organizers.

The event was also canceled as big names started to take their names back due to the virus’s threat. Big players like Sony Corp. to Nokia Oyj, Vodafone Group Plc and Deutsche Telekom AG were amongst those who withdrew.

The death toll in China from the virus has risen to 1,113, and confirmed cases on the mainland have reached 44,653. The fear of virus spreading has resulted in major actions by countries across the world. MWC was due to run from February 24 to February 27 in Spain’s Barcelona.
