Free Sanitary Pads Will Be Available At 21 Metro Stations From March 8

In yet another empowering step, Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has decided to distribute sanitary pad to women free of cost across all 21 Noida-Greater Noida Metro stations from March 8.

Special sanitary pad vending machines will be set up at all the 21 Aqua line metro stations to let women get sanitary pad free of cost.

“Any commuter will have to get a token at the Metro station which could be used at the vending machine to get a sanitary pad absolutely free of cost,” the official said.

Besides, the same, the NMRC has also announced that two metro stations, Sector 76 in Noida and Pari Chowk in Greater Noida, that fall on the Aqua Line route, will be called Pink Stations.

Pink Stations will home special facilities for women starting from 2020 International Women’s Day. Besides the physical changes, the stations will now have dedicated “baby-feeding room, diaper-changing facilities and a vanity-cum-changing room,” said an NMRC official.

NMRC also says that all the staff at these two metro stations, in the coming days, will be all women. However, this exclude security personnel at job and a job outsourced to a private firm.

The initiative for the initial year will be supported by the real estate group Ace. “Ace Studio, part of the Ace group, will bear the expenses of sanitary pads for one year,” a company spokesperson said.
