Have plastic waste? Then you can definitely get some tasty snack at a cafe. No, we are not kidding this is a reality in Gujarat. A cafe has been set up in a panchayat in Gujarat’s Dahod district that offers free snacks and tea in exchange for plastic waste.
The cafe has a novel initiative to curb the menace of plastic pollution while creating awareness about it. The ‘plastic cafe’ has been set up in front of the Dahod tehsil panchayat. It is set as part of the Centre’s ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.

As per the cafe’s scheme, those who bring in 1 kilogram of plastic waste will get snacks while those bringing in half that quantity will get tea. The cafe in the tribal-dominated Dahod district sends the collected plastic for recycling. The plan is to expand the initiative to other tehsils in the district if the cafe turns a success.
