Google, after years of testing, has finally launched “people cards” in India. The feature lets individuals create their profiles on Google for personal and professional purposes. The feature will allow anyone to add details about them to Google and those details can be seen by people in the form of a visiting card on the top of the search result.
You can use the feature to highlight your existing websites or social media profiles to the public. The feature is only available in India as of now.
“You may be wondering why we’re launching this feature in India first,” said Product Manager Lauren Clark in a briefing. “We are always looking for new ways to make search more useful for people, and we found that there were some unique information needs to India that we could help serve first.”
To utilise the feature, all one needs to do is search a person’s name on Google and the search engine will highlight the card – if the perosn you are searching for has made one. In the case of two similar names, various modules will be highlighted, with Google’s AI showing the most relevant one first.
Also, People Cards allow anyone to flag abuse, impersonation, or report low-quality content.
How to Create People Cards
To create your own people card, sign in to your Google Account and search for “add me to Search”. Click on “Add yourself to Google Search.” Then provide your phone number that will be verified through a six-digit unique code to begin the process.
Now, add your details in the form given including work, education, hometown, websites, and social media profiles. And you are all set.
