The doodle shows a desktop from 1998 with a date inscribed below. Google the modern-day search engine giant came up as an idea from two Ph.D. students from Stanford Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page.
Ending the mystery behind the name “Google” the founders wrote that, ” “We chose our systems name, Google, because it is a common spelling of googol [10 to the power of 100, or 1 followed by 100 zeroes] and fits well with our goal of building very large-scale search engines,”.
Google today comes in close to 100 languages and is amongst the global top four tech companies alongside Apple, Facebook, and Amazon. The first of the doodle was rolled out on the occasion of the Burning Man festival in 1998.
The tech giant has come under fire over issues like aggressive tax avoidance, search neutrality, copyright, censorship of search results and content, and privacy in the past.
