The central government has announced an extension of the deadline for linking Aadhaar with a ration card. The new deadline is June 30, 2023. A ration Card is an important document that allows Indian people to obtain free or subsidized rations such as rice and wheat from Public Distribution System (PDS) centres. The Department of Food and Public Distribution issued a notification in this respect on Thursday. The government’s intention is to integrate Aadhaar with Ration cards will aid in the elimination of duplicate and fake cards while also ensuring that the scheme’s benefits are reaching the intended beneficiaries. It will also help in weeding out fake and duplicate ration cards. This will also ensure that the benefits of the scheme are reaching the rightful beneficiaries.
To link your Aadhaar with a ration card, you will need to visit your nearest rationing office and will need to submit your Aadhaar number and other required documents or you can simply do this online. Below mentioned are the steps to link your aadhaar with a ration card.
Documents required to link your aadhaar card with ration card
- Ration card photocopy
- Aadhaar card photocopies for all family members
- Copy of a bank passbook
- Photos of the family’s heads in passport size

Steps to link your aadhaar card with ration card offline
- Take a copy of the documents as well as the originals to the nearest Ration store or Public Distribution System (PDS) centre.
- Provide these critical documents to the Ration Shop/PDS.
- The employee at the ration shop or PDS will use fingerprint authentication to authenticate your Aadhar card.
- You will receive an SMS notice as soon as the procedure is done.
- You will receive another SMS after your Aadhaar has been correctly linked to your ration card.
Steps to link your aadhaar card with ration card online
- Go to your state’s PDS website (each state has its own portal for the Official Public Distribution System (PDS).
- Choose the option to associate Aadhaar with active cards.
- Enter your Ration card number first, followed by your Aadhaar card number, and then your registered mobile phone number.
- Choose the continue/submit button.
- At this point, enter the OTP that was received to your cell phone.
- After the procedure is finished, you will receive an SMS notification.
