Forgot You ATM Pin? Here’s How You Can Create A New One Online

The State Bank Of India, which is also the largest commercial bank in India, offers users the facility to create a Green pin through several mediums like ATM, Internet Banking, IVR, and SMS.

In simplest words, Green Pin is a medium that allows you to generate a new pin just in case you have had forgotten yours. Or, a Green Pin is a government initiative to go paperless. Here paperless means that the banks will try to not send the ATM pin (which is usually written on paper) to its customers when they open a new bank account. Instead, they would simply tell the customers to generate a pin through mediums like ATM, Internet Banking, IVR, and SMS.

Here is how you can generate your SBI debit card PIN or green PIN through the contact centre:
  • Dial toll-free number 800 112 211 or 1800 425 3800 from the mobile number registered to SBI bank. 
  • Press 2 for ATM debit card related service. Press 1 for PIN generation
  • Press 1 if you are calling from your registered mobile number or else Press 2 to speak with an agent.
  • Enter the last 5 digits of the ATM card that you need to Green Pin for. 
  • Press 1 to confirm the last 5 digits.
  • Then you need to Press 2 to re-enter the last 5 digits of the ATM card.
  • Then you will be asked to enter the last 5 digits of your Account number
  • Press 1 to confirm the last 5 digits.
  • Again, Press 2 to re-enter and confirm the last 5 digits of the Account number.
  • Enter your birth year.
  • You have successfully generated your Green PIN
  • The Green PIN would be sent to your registered mobile number.

To change your SBI ATM PIN via SMS, follow these steps:
  1. To change PIN via SMS, send SMS from your registered mobile number in the format given – ‘PIN CCCC AAAA to 567676’. Here CCCC are the last 4 digits of the ATM card number and AAAA are the last 4 digits of the bank account number.
  2. An OTP will be sent to your registered number. You will then have to visit an SBI ATM to change your debit card PIN along with the OTP. Remember, the OTP will be valid for 2 days.

Other Banks

Bank of India (BOI) users can create a new debit card pin by following these steps.

HDFC bank users can generate a Green Pin from here.
