Higher EPS Pension: How to Make Sure Service History is Updated Correctly?

Are you a member of the Employees’ Pension Scheme? If yes, then make sure your service history is updated correctly in the records produced by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation. The main reason to recheck your updated service history for correction is that you will receive pension benefits after the age of 58 years, calculated based on these records. So, the longer your service history will be, the more pension benefits you will receive.

After 2014, the Government Introduced UAN to integrate multiple EPFO accounts provided by several employers into one category, which made the checking balance and claiming process more convenient.

“An EPF member can check if the EPFO records are correctly updated with the member’s employment record by checking the EPF statement/passbook of the previous years. If an EPF member has continuously transferred his older EPF accounts to the new employer and it is reflected in the passbook by way of transfer-in entry, then the EPFO’s records are updated with the EPF member’s correct employment history. However, do note that old service records will not reflect on the EPFO’s Member E-Sewa portal,” Rituparna Chakraborty, Co-Founder & Executive Director, TeamLease.

So, What to Do If Employment Records Need Correction?

As per Chakraborty, “If there is any mismatch between the EPFO and EPF member records, then an individual can file a complaint using the EPF i-Grievance Management System (www. https://epfigms.gov.in/). An individual is required to provide documentary evidence of where the mismatch is occurring. Documentary evidence can include salary slips showing EPF contribution, EPF statement shared by the employer, etc.”

“This transfer-in process can be done only offline if the UAN is not created by the old employer subsequently. An online process is impossible if the service history pertains to the year before 2011 & if the UAN is not created by your previous employer“, she further said.

“This transfer-in process will work for those EPFO members as well who have withdrawn their EPF balance but left their EPS account untouched.”
