Speaking on the occasion of Hindi Diwas the Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged the nation to come together to promote Hindi as the Lingua Franca. Shah said that today if any language has the potential to tie the nation to the door of unity then it is Hindi. The 2011 census data revealed that around 43% of Indians speak Hindi.
pic.twitter.com/hrk1ktpDCn

The minister appealed to the citizens to use Hindi in their day to day communications to realize the dream of Gandhi and Patel. Mentioning about the influence of English Shah said that if you ask a Hindi medium student to speak in Hindi for 40 minutes then he would not be able to do that. He further added that nowadays it has become difficult for people to speak in Hindi without the help of English.
It is required that we take-up Hindi in areas like law, science and technology as the “battle is half won”, said the minister. He highlighted the fact that the Constituent Assembly, while framing the Constitution of India, had agreed to make Hindi the official language.
Today both Hindi and English are used in correspondence between ministries and State governments as per the Official Languages Act, 1963. The act further says that in a situation where Hindi is used for purposes of communication between one State which has adopted Hindi as its official language and another State which has not adopted Hindi as its official language, such communication in Hindi shall be accompanied by a translation of the same in the English language.
In the Judicial domain as well English is a preferred language over Hindi. The documentation and judgments of the Apex judiciary are all done in English.
