Withdraw Cash from ATMs using UPI Applications: No Debit Card Needed

Do you often forget to carry your Debit Card with you or its PIN leaves your memory as soon as it enters it? No worries, because now you can withdraw cash from an ATM without using a debit card.

How to Withdraw Cash from ATMs using UPI Applications

United Payments Interface (UPI) has gained tremendous popularity since its introduction in 2016. This incredible payment system has made our lives easier by offering us a single platform for all our banks that we can use to make online cashless payments.

After making us so dependent on going cashless, how can it leave us behind when it comes to getting some cash on hand. With the help of its newest feature, UPI enables us to withdraw cash from an ATM without a debit card. You can use any UPI application including Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm.

This new function is termed as Interoperable Cardless Cash Withdrawal which is shortened as ICCW.

This service will also eliminate card related frauds which includes card cloning, skimming, and device tampering. To make it more real, the Reserve Bank of India has made it mandatory for the banks to offer ICCW option at their ATMs. However, only a few banks are providing this service at their ATMs at the moment but we are soon expecting it at every ATM owing to the mandatory rule set by the RBI.

Step by Step Process to Withdraw Cash from ATM without a Debit Card

If you are ready to go cardless with the help of your UPI based application, then here are the steps which can get you cash anytime without a Debit Card:

  • Go to an updated ATM machine.
  • Select ‘Withdraw Cash’ from the menu.
  • Choose ‘UPI’ from the list appearing on the screen.
  • A QR Code will appear on the ATM screen.
  • Open your UPI based application like Google Pay, PhonePe, etc.
  • Scan the QR Code with the help of the application.
  • Enter the amount that you require to withdraw.
  • Type your UPI PIN.
  • Choose ‘Hit Process’ from the given options.
  • The ATM will provide you with cash in no time.

Please note that if your bank’s ATM is not providing you with this option then you can always go to some other bank’s ATM. Although there would be no extra charge for using UPI to withdraw money from the ATM of your bank, the charges and limitations to withdraw from a different bank’s ATM remain the same.
