ICC Test Latest Rankings: Rohit Sharma Overtakes Virat Kohli To Spot To No. 5 Spot, Joe Root Tops The List

Indian opener Rohit Sharma has overtaken Captain Virat Kohli in the ICC test latest rankings, updated on September 1. Rohit spot at the No. 5 while Virat Kohli has slipped to No. 6 as he only scored 124 runs in the first three test matches against England.

As per the ICC Test Rankings, Rohit has 773 rating points, whereas captain Kohli has 766 points, who has been struggling for consistency in international cricket. Against England, Rohit Sharma has scored 230 runs in the first 3 Tests.

Also, this is the first time when Rohit has ranked in the top 5 of Test batting charts. Notably, Rishabh Pant has also slipped out of the top 10. He has now moved to 12 from the 8th spot after a series of poor outings against England.

Joe Root Stands At The Top For The First Time

Meanwhile, Joe Root has moved to the top spot in the ICC Test Batting Rankings. He ranked at the top in the ICC test batting rankings for the first time in 6 years replacing New Zealand captain Kane Williamson. Root has hit a hundred in each of the 3 Tests against India.

At the beginning of the series, Root was ranked fifth in the charts, but his sublime form has moved him to the top. Other players gaining in the ranks from England batting department include Jonny Bairstow (five places up to 24th) and Dawid Malan (ranked 88th).

In the ICC Test Bowling Rankings, R Ashwin continues at the 2nd spot. The off-spinner has not played a Test so far against England but is expected to be back in the playing 11 for the 4th Test, starting September 2 at the Oval.

On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah moved listed in the top 10. Bumrah has picked 14 wickets in 3 matches. He has surpassed Stuart Broad who is out from the test series due to an injury.
