The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has alerted Indians and medical authorities about a new virus originating from China. ICMR has said that the virus has the potential to spread to India and thus people must practice caution.
The new virus has been named the Cat Que Virus and, as per ICMR, entertains the capabilities to cause febrile illnesses, meningitis, and paediatric encephalitis among humans.

The statement by the ICMR adds that the virus has been spotted in Culex mosquitoes and pigs in China and Vietnam. The culex breed of mosquitoes can also be found in India.
Once alerted about the virus, the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune soon took action and scanned human samples for antibodies. NIV, as on now, has found antibodies for the virus in two out of the 883 human serum samples which were taken from various Indian states.

The Cat Que Virus was not present in these samples as of now.

The findings of the virus have been published in the Indian Journal of Medical Research (IJMR). Besides mosquitoes, pigs too are the primary mammalian host of the Cat Que Virus.
