Important Details You Should Know About Student PAN Card – How To Apply, Documents Required And More

Usually, a PAN card is applied by an individual whose age is 18 or above, but now students can also apply for a ‘Student PAN Card‘. They can apply both offline or online. However, there is no particular application process or form for a student PAN card. It generally depends on the age of the student. Based on this, they need to apply either for a Minor PAN card or a regular PAN card.

A PAN (Permanent Account Number) is a type of identity card issued by National Securities Depository Limited on behalf of the Government of India. This card is a non-transferable identity card that is used by an individual to file taxes or apply for a tax refund.

Also, PAN is used as a proof of identity and/or proof of age. As it is issued by the government of India, it can be used as ID proof in case of buying a vehicle or applying for a loan.

Documents Required to Apply For Student PAN Card Application

The lists of required documents to apply for a student PAN card are as followed:

  • Two passport-sized photographs

Any of the documents in respect of identity proof

  • Passport copy
  • Aadhaar card copy
  • Driving Licence copy
  • Voter’s ID card copy
  • Ration card copy (with the photograph)
  • Original identity certificate attested by a Gazetted Officer or MLA
  • Bank certificate duly signed by the Branch Manager

Address Proof Documents

  • Passport copy
  • Aadhaar card copy
  • Bank account statement (not older than 3 months)
  • Driving licence copy
  • Electricity Bill/gas connection bill/telephone bill (not older than 3 months)
  • Voter ID card copy
  • Post office passbook containing the applicant’s address (copy)
  • Government-issued Domicile Certificate copy
  • Credit Card statement (not older than 3 months)
  • Original Certificate of Address attested by a Gazetted Officer or MLA
  • Central/State Government-issued Letter of Allotment Accommodation (not older than 3 years)

How To Apply For Student PAN Card Offline?

Follow the below-given steps to apply for a student PAN card offline.

Step 1: Download Form 49A from the NSDL or UTIITSL website.

Step 2: As per your age limit, choose the option for a Minor PAN card as given in the form.

Step 3: Attach the documents as said in the form.

Step 4: Now, submit both the documents to the nearest TIN facilitation office, and pay the application fee.

Step 5: After the application is processed and verified. You will receive a PAN card by post to the address provided in the online form.

Steps to Apply for Student PAN Card Online

Step 1: Visit the NSDL website

Step 2: Go to the homepage and click on the “Online PAN Application” tab

Step 3: Choose the application form type.

Step 4: Students residing in India must choose Form 49A.

Step 5: Enter the mandatory details like full name, address, date of birth, Aadhaar number (if applicable) etc.

Step 6: Attach the scanned documents and submit the form online.

Step 7: The documents will be sent by post along with the acknowledgement.

Step 8: Now, an automatic acknowledgement number will be generated.

Step 9: Take a printout of the page and paste the photographs in the space provided.

Step 10: Sign the duly filled form and post it to the NSDL address.
