The Income Tax Department will intimate people who are filing their ITR about the status of their reports through SMS or e-mail.
It is a well-known fact that filing Income Tax Returns or commonly known as ITR is a long and tedious process which requires multiple document verifications. These verifications happen in stages which makes it even more difficult for the process to go smoothly.
Since there is a question on the smoothness of the process, the tax filing process often gets stuck due to some reason which is majorly a missing document or information.
From now on, if the taxpayer is filing the ITR online and it is in the draft stage then the Income Tax Department will send a reminder to the taxpayer to complete it through SMS or e-mail. Such intimations from the Income Tax Department shall also be there when they need to inform the taxpayer about any refund dues or more.
The taxpayer shall also be informed in case the process gets paused midway which could be for any reason. The major reason for such a pause is a missing document which may be unavailable at the point of filing or the taxpayer might have forgotten about it.
We must note that ITR filing does not just include the process of submitting the return but the taxpayers also need to verify their returns which makes the process multifold. You will be glad to learn that the verification process can be completed both online and offline.
Online ITR Process
Case of online ITR can be verified with the help of Aadhaar OTP or a digital signature certificate which is an electronic verification code that is generated by a bank account, Demat account or net banking.
Offline ITR Process
Case of offline verification can be done by a signed ITR-V which must be sent to the Centralized Processing Centre (CPC) that is situated in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
In case you do it online and you wish to check its status, you can also do that through the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department using your ITR acknowledgement number.
