Increase In Government’s Air Purifier Purchase As Delhi-NCR Breathes Toxic Air

A report from Reuters has showed that the central government has stepped up the purchase of air purifiers over the last two years. The ministries of the central government now have nearly 300 purifiers with them.

The data shows that 6 ministries – including the health, foreign, and home affairs – bought at least 159 air purifiers during 2018-2019. This cost the exchequer Rs. 50 lakhs. Around 140 air purifiers were bought during 2014-2017. These purifiers were for the six ministries and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office.

The rise in purchase comes during the time when Delhi rose the charts in Air pollution. Delhi which is the world’s most polluted capital has seen little to no improvement in air quality. The data also puts a question on the government’s concern for the affected citizens.
