As per the Global Climate Risk Index 2020 report released by environmental think tank Germanwatch on Wednesday, India is the 5th most vulnerable country to climate change. Notably, India recorded the highest number of causalities due to climate change in the year 2018 including Kerala flood that killed 324 people in 2018.

Germanwatch accessed as many as 181 countries before forging the ranking. The report suggested that the 2018 monsoon led to India fall from the fourteenth position in 2017 to fifth in 2018. The report further declared Japan as the most vulnerable followed by the Philippines, Germany, Madagascar and India.
