India Building Underground Bunkers Along Border With Pakistan In J&K, Aim To Protect Civilians

As the Pakistani forces keep on violating the sanctity of Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir the civilians are the worst hit. Every other day we come across news of a civilian being dead or houses getting damaged in shelling from Pakistan’s side. Now, India is looking to safeguard the lives of civilians along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir.

India is planning underground bunkers in villages across the LoC. The construction of underground community bunkers has started at villages in Uri in the Baramulla districts. The bunkers will be equipped with all facilities which will allow people to take shelter in these bunkers for several days. The cost of each bunker is around Rs 10 lakhs with 2 rooms and a washroom inside. In total 18 community bunkers in Boniyar and Uri areas are to build out of which construction work on 6 is currently underway said Junior Engineer, Roads, and Buildings department.

We are very thankful for the Indian government for fulfilling our demand. This is a great start but we need more such bunkers to be made at the houses of people in this area“, said Manzoor Ahmad, Sarpanch of one of the areas where bunkers are being built. The bunkers would surely help the residents who are the sufferers of Pakistani shelling.
