India-China Have Started Withdrawal Of Troops Along Pangong Lake, Says China

As Defence Minister Rajnath Singh ready himself to give a statement on the ongoing India-China standoff in eastern Ladakh in the parliament today, a statement from China on the same has many speculating that it could be good news.

Chinese defence ministry spokesperson on Wednesday afternoon said that India and China have begun “synchronised and organised disengagement” from the north and south banks of Pangong Lake, which has been a standoff of point between the two armies for over eight months now.

Though India is still to react to the statement, however, as per a report, the government is not denying the developments.

“The Chinese and Indian frontline troops at the southern and northern bank of the Pangong Tso Lake start synchronised and organised disengagement from February 10,” Senior Colonel Wu Qian, China’s defence spokesperson, said in a written statement.

The statement added that this consensus was reached after the 9th military commander-level talks held on the Chinese side of the Moldo-Chushul border last month.

India, for the unaware, had earlier said that the 9th level talks ended on a “positive, practical and constructive” note and that both sides had agreed to “push for an early disengagement”. The talks had lasted for 15 hours.

However, the government of India is not yet excited about the development and will continue monitoring the situation until the whole disengagement actually happens. Even earlier in November, a three-phase disengagement plan was readied, agreed by China but not implemented.

In recent months, the tension at LAC has heightened after multiple instances of skirmishes between the Indian Army and PLA including one where India lost its 20 brave soldiers, but not before taking down un-numbered Chinese soldiers.
