In what can be said as a perfect example of women empowerment and gender equality Sub-Lieutenant Shivangi became the first woman pilot of the Indian Navy on Monday. She got her qualification ‘wings’ from Vice Admiral AK Chawla at Naval Base Kochi.

Vice Admiral AK Chawla said, “It is a front-line combat role. The course curriculum is absolutely the same for male & female pilots.” Sub-Lieutenant Shivangi who joined operational duties in Kochi naval base would be flying the Dornier surveillance aircraft of the Indian Navy.

Recently Indian Airforce also inducted women as “combat fighters” and the Indian Army rolled out a specialized recruitment notice for inducting women soldiers.
