Starting October 10, the Indian Railways is set to change some reservation rules to allow more reservations and commute facilities to the passengers. These rules will allow people to opt for train seats even before five minutes of train departure.
Here are some new rules that you must be aware of:
1. The reservation chart from October 10 will be prepared 30 minutes before the train departure instead of 2 hours. This system was normal before COVID. But as COVID happened, anyone traveling on special trains was asked to arrive at the station at least one hour prior to train departure thus the chart was also prepared accordingly.

2. Now that the chart will be prepared before 30 minutes of train departure, seats will be available even five minutes before the train leaves the station. As of tomorrow, these charts will be prepared between 30 minutes to 5 minutes before the scheduled departure, tickets can be booked during this time.
3. The first chart is prepared four hours before the departure. If seats are left vacant owing cancelations, one can book these through PRS counters or online till the preparation of the second chart.

4. Tickets can also be canceled during this time as per the provisions of the refund rule.

Also, the railway is planning to start more special trains owing to the festive season. The Railway Board recently gave approval to zones for 39 new special trains.
