Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that teams will play in two groups for IPL 2022 season. Two new franchise, Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans that got added this season has called the management to form two groups for conducting matches.
The team in each group has been put on the basis of titles won by the team and the number of appearances in finals of IPL. Based on the stats Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have been put in separate groups. Each team will have to play 14 matches in IPL 2022 season.
Firstly teams will face off twice against other teams in the same group and once against each team from the other group. The matches will start from March 26, 2022 under the banner of Tata. League stage will have 55 matches that will be played in three different stadiums in Mumbai. 15 matches will be played in DY Patil Stadium in Pune.
Brijesh Patel IPL Chairman said to cricbuzz that, “The IPL will kick off on March 26, the full schedule will come soon. We will also have crowds but as per the policy of the Maharashtra government. Whether it will be 25 or 50 percent of the stadium capacity will be decided by the government instruction.”
Very soon the schedule of the whole season will be announced and Star Sports will be the host broadcaster of the season. Star Sports has asked commentators to keep their schedules clear after March 9, 2022. The finale of IPL 2022 will be held on May 29, 2022.
